London Fog

London Fog | Earl Grey mit Milch | Rezept

A truly wonderful drink, which could also be described more simply as Earl Grey latte or, quite ordinarily, as Earl Grey tea with milk. But treating yourself to a London Fog in the afternoon is something quite different from drinking tea with milk, isn't it? 😏

A brief excursion into history

The name London Fog is reminiscent of the ‘real’ London Fog, the so-called Pea Soup Fog in London, which occurred twice, most recently in the 1950s. Due to certain weather conditions, London was enveloped in thick, often yellowish fog for days on end. The problem was that, in addition to many soot particles, the fog also contained toxic sulphur dioxide gas, which led to many cases of lung damage and even deaths.
The Clean Air Act was passed after the second Pea Soup Fog.

Well, that's not exactly the most appealing backstory for a drink that's supposed to warm our stomachs and hearts on cold days, but if you look at the colour of the finished tea, you might be able to guess where the name comes from.

By the way, have you seen the Netflix series ‘Call the Midwife’ on Netflix? It's a really sweet series, I absolutely loved it. Incidentally, it's definitely aimed at a female audience. Gentlemen, I think you can give this one a miss.
There were one or two episodes that dealt specifically with the Pea Soup Fog. Well done and exciting to watch.

Cold weather and a delicious hot drink

London Fog is a wonderful drink that warms the soul on cold winter days. Snuggle up at home, perhaps watch a nice television series, nibble on biscuits and drink a London Fog. Just imagining it makes me feel good and relaxed! ❤

Without sugar, the tea is a little bitter. A little sweetness does it good, unless you prefer to balance it out with a slice of cake or biscuits! Try it with the slightly spicy pistachio ginger slices with it!
