Photo parade 01/2018 – my most beautiful pictures

Der Wiener Michaelerplatz vom Kohlmarkt aus in der Abendsonne gesehen. Wanderhunger, Fotoparade

So now I'm taking part for the first time – in Michael's almost legendary photo parade on his blog Erkunde die Welt(Explore the World). The aim is to present the best photo of the first half of the year in six different categories. Well, if only I'd known that at the beginning of the year... 🙂

It's about honour, about the winning photo, about more traffic – and above all about another beautiful contribution before more photos get lost on dusty hard drives!

Let's go!

The Photo Parade 01/2018

Category: Close Up

That's not the best start. My stock of close-ups has been somewhat limited this first year. Thanks to some leeway in interpreting the categories, I decided on this photo of a ripening rye field. It was taken on a beautiful evening in June, when the setting sun (and my dog) inspired me to go for a photo walk.

Category: At Night

I particularly love this photo because it marks the end of a wonderful day that I spent with dear friends, from breakfast together to this finale. What a sight! There are few things more beautiful than the very last red rays of the setting sun. Here in Wels, photographed from the Osttangente Bridge.

Onward to Strasbourg for one of my beloved ‘early morning tours.’ This picturesque city is quite crowded on weekends, but at 6 a.m., I had it all to myself. Even the arms of the Île were still smooth as glass, allowing me to take this perfect mirror photo.

Category: Contrast

I wasn't really a fan of London – until I went there again this year for a wedding and took a day to explore the city . Since then, I've completely changed my mind and am already looking forward to my next visit. Hopefully with a little more time. I find the many small side streets with their old brick houses particularly atmospheric. I was fascinated by the contrast between materials, colours, old and new.

Four days in Strasbourg – a really great girls' weekend. I can recommend this city to everyone. I love these beautiful half-timbered houses. We really don't have enough of them in Austria! All over the city, there was artistic graffiti, apparently sprayed by a single artist. I can't imagine how it's possible to create such images with a spray can.

Category Best Picture

My favourite photo from the first half of the year also comes from the Rauris Valley in Salzburg, where I actually travelled primarily to see the stallion drive . Of course, I also went hiking, as the fantastic surroundings almost ‘force’ you to do so. That's how I captured this magnificent view of the valley.

Additional category: Mystic

As you can see, Rauris inspired me to take a few photos, including this one, which was taken during my hike in the Valley of the Vultures. I set off at 7 a.m. and it drizzled continuously. But as annoying as the weather was, the cloud formations were just as beautiful.

Additional category: Blue Hour

I came across this subject on the last ‘permitted’ day of the photo parade. I was walking through Vienna and the famous ‘blue hour’, that very special light, suddenly turned every building into a gem. Here is a view of Michaelerplatz and Michaelertor in Vienna, one of the gates to the Hofburg Palace and one of Vienna's most beautiful sights.

Many other travel bloggers are participating in the Photo Parade 01/2018. I have already clicked through many of the entries with great enthusiasm. Looking at photos always feels a bit like travelling in your mind, don't you think?
