A mecca for foodies: Berlin's Markthalle 9

Honestly? For me, travelling wouldn't be half as enjoyable without the food. I'd rather skip the Eiffel Tower in Paris and treat myself to a baguette with delicious French soft cheese instead. The Algarve without fish? Brittany without a single oyster? Southeast Asia without street food? OMG – Italy without pasta? No way.

I particularly love markets and market halls. The Boquería in Barcelona is more impressive than the entire city combined. And anyone who has not yet visited the fish market near the Rialto Bridge in Venice on a Saturday has definitely missed out.
So I was very excited to hear about Markthalle 9 in Berlin. Luckily, my friend Pam stopped me from going there for breakfast on Saturday. Since the market hall doesn't open until noon, I would have been standing in front of closed doors. Actually, the plan for Saturday afternoon had been to visit Teufelsberg in Berlin... But here we are again with the question – food or sightseeing?

The question is not a question, actually.

Markthalle 9 in Berlin – eat, drink and feel good!

Step into the beautiful hall in Kreuzberg, where local value creation, organic farming and respectful treatment of people, animals and the environment are part of the credo. Get a taste of what's on offer with the following photo gallery and don't forget to pay a visit to the market hall on your next trip to Berlin!

A view of the magnificent and inviting hall
There's always something going on here – events and food festivals galore.
Oh, did I just spot a fish stall...
Fresh oysters, yeah! I'm happy 🙂
Plenty of seating everywhere to enjoy the delicacies on the spot.
Attractive stands with goodies, from souvenirs to delicacies
Where should one begin eating and where should one stop?
No more words needed

Fresh fruit and vegetables from the region

With my sweet Pasteis de Nata, I am leaving Markthalle 9 with a heavy heart.

Are there any enthusiastic travel foodies and culinary hunters among you like me? Do you have good tips for market halls and markets for me?

      Liebe Grüße, Martina
